BMI Calculator
Calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI) to see if you are underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese based on your height and weight.
What is BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple measure that uses your height and weight to estimate whether you are at a healthy weight. It is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in meters.
BMI Categories
| BMI Range | Category | Health Risk |
|---|---|---|
| Below 18.5 | Underweight | Increased risk of nutritional deficiency |
| 18.5 - 24.9 | Normal | Lowest health risk |
| 25.0 - 29.9 | Overweight | Moderate risk of cardiovascular disease |
| 30.0+ | Obese | High risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes |
Limitations of BMI
BMI is a useful screening tool, but it has significant limitations:
- Does not distinguish between muscle mass and fat mass — muscular people may be classified as "overweight"
- Does not account for age, gender, ethnicity, or body fat distribution
- Waist circumference and body fat percentage are better indicators of health risk
